Western Railroad Discussion > Does KCS have trackage rights on UP Lufkin Sub? and symbol help

While railfanning in the Shreveport area on Wednesday, I caught a coal train headed out of town on the UP Lufkin Subdivision that sounded like it had a KCS crew and was described by the UP dispatcher to MoW forces as "a KCS train". Does the KCS have trackage rights over all or any part of this subdivision? If so, I'd welcome a KCS symbol for this train, which had the KCS 5023 leading.

Actually, I could use for my log the symbols for a bunch of KCS trains from this trip, starting with the OCS/Holiday train's official symbol.

That’s a KCS/BNSF coal train headed for Martin Lake, TX. KCS hands it off to BNSF at Shreveport.

Splitreductiin is correct, KCS coal train south on the ex SP Rabbit Shreveport to Tenaha,
then back north on the ex-Santa Fe ( now BNSF) to Martin Lake.  Empties usually head 
north on the ex-Santa Fe Martin Lake to Longview, then east on UP to get back on the KCS.

KCS or BNSF trains don't normally run on the Rabbit south of Tenaha.

So it had a BNSF crew on it out of Shreveport? I thought I heard a dispatcher telling them where a BNSF crew was going to get the train, but of course the cited location meant nothing to me.

Yes, it should have had a BNSF crew out of Shreveport. Well the crew wouldn’t be based out of Shreveport, they go on duty in Longview, TX and limo to Shreveport.

They usually swap crews on main 3 at Wilson’s Alley, but sometimes they swap at CP 558.

Thanks. The UP dispatcher talking to some MoW people referred to it as a "KCS train" so I wanted to be sure (it affects how I log and file the photo).
