We planned on photographing KCSM around Monterrey and Saltillo as well as FXE around Monterrey and Torreon. This post is strictly about the KCSM SD40s and SDP40 we saw. I will post more as the week goes. We are currently in Panama now. On Monday November 28th we headed to Saltillo which is about an hour from Monterrey. We had a great tour guide and friend from Monterrey that showed us around. In Saltillo there is a small KCSM yard that host a yard job and a few locals. We knew KCSM #3010 was there, but had no idea what else we were in store for. On Monday we got there at 7am and was greated to a pair of Ex NdeM SD40s #3024 and #3011 still wearing their NdeM blue scheme. We shot them working for a couple hours before headed onto other areas around Saltillo and Monterrey. On the 30th we decided we wanted to try our luck and see what other units were around and if we could catch 3010. For those who are unaware KCSM 3010 is an Ex NdeM SDP40 still housing its original steam generator. Upon arriving on the 30th we had another pair of Blue SD40s make a move in the yard as they passed the old FNM paint shop. KCSM 3032 and 3031 were built for CN before being sent to NdeM. After that another Blue SD40 #3007 starting switching the yard with KCSM SDP40 #3010 second out. After that we figured out there may be another blue set down the line about 25 miles in the town of Benjamin Hernandez. We were shocked to see the local down there waiting to yard their train with a trio of Blue SD40s. #3024, #3005 and #3006 put their train away before returning light to Saltillo. Hands down one of the most incredible catches of my life. Enjoy!
