Nikon P-1000 camera
Author: spmike1486

Does anyone have any experience with the Nikon P-1000 camera. On paper, it seems like a terrific deal considering the power. Telephoto up to 3000. Seems too good to be true. I would appreciate any input concerning this camera.

The lens stops down to F45 at 3000 mm, and it's F28 at 300 mm, so it's a very slow lens.  The subject and camera had better not be moving.  Plus, it's always going to be a relatively heavy camera. The old saying is there's no such thing as a free lunch, and it applies to optics as much as anything.

It is a great camera if you like bird watching, rocket launches or moon photography. Otherwise, it is terrible for railfanning.

WOW!! 3000mm???? I'm wondering what kind of nuclear-proof, cement bunker it would take to keep a lens like that perfectly still. Unless you shoot at 30,000 ISO... ;^)
