Westbound Greed
Author: MacBeau

A 1x1 descends San Timoteo Canyon late last month at Redlands on the Yuma Sub. Watching one of these mobile monuments to corporate greed climb Beaumont Hill at a snail's pace can be entertaining too, especially when one of the two units fails and the whole thing temporarily becomes an immobile obstacle.
Be of good cheer,

Looks like an ISALB. Notice these trains lately have gone down to 1x1 for some reason, but near the same length.

Must be intermodal shipments that called for a low priority of service (something railroads excel at).  I see a bunch of Schneider National intermodal in the picture; I had always assumed that much of their traffic was, at most, contracted for maybe a moderate level of service.  When BNSF had their business, Schneider National was mostly operated on the second tier "Q" train network ("Q" trains are essentially the modern day intermodal version of the "junk manifest" train).
