Interesting video of it happening at a grade crossing:

Whoops. Looks like the bolster pin broke.

Looks like this would be a BNSF eastbound train out of Tulsa going into the siding at Verdigris, OK at the County Rd S 4110 crossing looking north. What a way to ruin a brand new Trinity coil car.

I thought that the rear wheels on the bulkhead car were already derailed and then the pavement knocked the truck off of the center plate.

That is what I thought at Springfield, Oh on the NS. In one video you see one of the coil cars jump aa the car started to go across the crossing. Look like trailing truck was derailed before the crossing.
This derailment looked like the same but at a slower speed.

I had to watch the video a second time to notice that the crossing knocked the trucks back.

A friend of mine coincidentally had been stopped across the street by a local policeman for having a tail light out.  They were conversing on the side of the road when they heard KABOOM! The cop suddenly had more important things to do.

What I find interesting is the crossing does not have a ramp at each end where it meets the track. When we built a crossing on the Monterey Branch Line one of our correction requests from the public utilities commission was an asphalt ramp.  For our handcars it did not make sense, but now I understand the importance after watching this video.   The ramp would have allowed the wheels to go over the crossing.

Great photo of a slow speed derailment!  The one car jumped off the king pin and energy stopped the movement.

I bid and got a crappy clerical relief job on the X GN side after the BN merger and saw one happen, caused by open hopper car doors catching switches. Quite an experience.
