Snow Has Returned On The BNSF Lakeside Sub-A Bit Of Traction
Author: Ritzville

It was a snowy cold day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub. The high-low was 37-32 so far with 3 inches of new snow. Snow has been falling all day, but not sticking to the street in the 37 degree temp. Snowed heavy before sunrise. Traffic is at 16 trains since midnight with more on the way. Playing catch-up from 3/7 to 3/10.

Neat snow shots. Sure miss the kind of work trains we grew up with rather than these modern versions

No 14 shows a LATL car at, I believe, the 'S-Line' at the western end of the line in the vicinity of W 8th St
and Western Ave in Los Angeles. A search of white pages phone books the Library of Congress website from
1950 and 1956 shows the Kimball Laundry & Dry Cleaners to be located at 3569 W 8th St in Los Angeles, which
today's Google Map places this photo to be less than a half block from the end of the line at Western Ave.

EDIT:

After revisiting Mr Google's site and studying the current structures at this intersection, I conclude Mr Squires photo
of the 1445 was made while the car was on the 'loop' at 8th & Western moving from Western Ave to the eastward
traffic lane of W 8th St.  If I'm correct, this means the 'loop' occupied the northward traffic lane on Western for a very short,
less than 150 feet, distance. Again, if I'm correct, this loop seems to be contrary to other loops of the LARy-LATL-LAMTA
genre in that it occupied city streets throughout its length vs the 'normal' practice of exiting street trackage to accomplish
its purpose while on private property. The other loop on the 'S-Line', placed in service at the same time, January 1958, utilized
off-street property at Manchester and Central. Apparently this was not possible at W 8th & Western.

The Kimball Laundry building in the photo remains today, albeit well hidden among newer structures. Googling the street view
reveals a couple architectural features shared by the Kimball structure and today's edition, most notably the angled entrance
door---bricked-up with the telltale address '3569' still in place.

So, to answer my own questions, I'd say: LATL H-3 1445, (which was scrapped in 1959) is on the western 'loop' of the
'S-Line', moving from Western Ave to W. 8th St in Los Angeles, sometime between--(another edit)--September 1958 and
the scrapping of 1445 in 1959.

Still open to any additions, corrections. Thanks HT6 for your comment.

#21.  Could that be  "5" and not a "S"?  I don't remember any trackage like that on the S.  The dash sign looks like it's a turn-back run but my iPad isn't that great to see what it says.

By the way, a view of a Muni car on 2nd Ave in San Francisco a few postings ago had what looked like an O on the roof.  It was actually a C that had been incorrectly placed.  There was never a Muni O line.

I know nothing about the 5 or S line in LA. I do agree with HT6 on that there was never an O Line San Francisco Muni. Thanks Charlie for all your detective work. This could be an unsolved case, lol. #21 sure looks like an S to me under magnification.

Louisville Section - running late account of tax season

RITZVILLE ACTION
Blue skies turned to snow again; at least spring is only eleven days away.
Appears MofW crews were making the most of the clear weather.
Wonder if AMTK passengers were enjoying the snow scene or were anxious about running late.
Some very colorful intermodal containers passed through; always enjoy seeing those trains.
Unit Of The Day is BNSF #9008

HISTORIC TRACTION
21 - The latest model auto in the scene is the 1957 Ford nearest on the left.
23 - Especially nice scene.  Green auto is a 1952 Pontiac. The red/blue postal box dates the photo to post July 4, 1955.
24 - Like both Trolley Bus #9298 and an unidentified GM New Look in the scene.  Trolley is a Flyer Model E700A Blt 1971/72.

Thanks for the super catchup posting. Always appreciate your time, work, and dedication.
