Western Railroad Discussion > Catching up on some KyleDate: 03/24/23 13:35 Catching up on some Kyle Author: SP8595 Filing some pictures away today and realized that I hadn't posted these shots. A little dated but hopefully of some interest. On my travels back and forth from Western Colorado to Missouri, it seems that most of the time I will run across a Kyle train somewhere out on the stretch of line that I-70 follows between Limon, CO and Colby, KS.
1) It was a gray, cold and windy day on December 8th, 2021 but the consist was interesting as MK50-3 #5003 still in Utah paint and Genesee & Wyoming/Kyle GP38-3 #2128 lead a long train heading Eastbound just out of Genoa, CO. That 2128 sure is well traveled! Having been originally built as Baltimore & Ohio GP40 3705, then into lease service followed by stints both on the Arizona & California and Missouri & Northern Arkansas. 2) A pair of Genesee & Wyoming painted engines, Utah Railway MK50-3 #5005 along with Buffalo & Pittsburgh SD40-2 #3333 (ex-Canadian National 5148) shove back to their train after picking up 2 tank cars at Ruleton, CO on April 3rd, 2022. 3) Buffalo & Pittsburgh SD40-2 #3318 was sitting parked on the siding at Genoa, CO on April 10th, 2022. This is another well traveled engine, having been the Union Pacific 3805, ICE and RCP&E 6406 and Arizona Eastern 3469. ---------------Three More Pictures Posted Below------------------------------- Date: 03/24/23 13:36 Re: Catching up on some Kyle Author: SP8595 4) Kyle #5003 trundles solo Westbound through Stratton, CO on the morning of April 10th, 2022.
5) A going away shot of the last car on the 5003 West which was a WRWX initialled boxcar still in Rock Island paint and passing by the old Rock Island Depot at Stratton. I could have done without all of the graffiti however. 6) On May 20th, 2021 out near Bovina, CO, I pulled off at an overpass to shoot SD40-2 #3318 along with GP38-3 #2128 heading Westbound with a short train but my camera battery was dead so I grabbed the cell phone for a quick shot. --------Always nice to shoot something other than the Class 1's---------------------------------- Date: 03/24/23 13:54 Re: Catching up on some Kyle Author: ShortlinesUSA Nice shots. I've only been to the Kyle a handful of times, but see plenty of photos from there. This marks the first time I've ever seen the GP38-2 out on the road.

I like the variations that shortlines offer, although there's less variation now with G&W so ubiquitous. Nice group of images, too! GK Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/24/23 18:38 by TheNavigator. Date: 03/25/23 11:56 Re: Catching up on some Kyle Author: 3rdswitch Real nice bunch. Since father in laws passing a couple of years ago, my trips across this territory have all but ended, and my latest return from a road trip using this route was one of the very few times I saw no KYLE anywhere.
