Western Railroad Discussion > Odd Coal Train on the BNSF Ottumwa SubDate: 05/11/23 15:33 Odd Coal Train on the BNSF Ottumwa Sub Author: Agent It takes a bit for a coal train to stand out on the coal-heavy BNSF Ottumwa Sub, but one I caught this morning definitely looked different to me. A Kansas City Southern de México AC4400 as a one-unit-wonder taking 110 empty coal cars eastward against the typical flow of loads east; empties west. I can guess how BNSF got down to one engine on an empty, but I don't know why empties would be going east.
1) KCSM 4523 (ex-TFM 2623) AC4400CW leads its train of empty coal cars east of Agency, Iowa just before eleven o'clock. Date: 05/11/23 16:00 Re: Odd Coal Train on the BNSF Ottumwa Sub Author: PHall Most likely going in to storage.
