Western Railroad Discussion > Behind 'that farm place'Date: 05/24/23 03:34 Behind 'that farm place' Author: santafe199 Yup, it has a real business name. But it’s somehow more fitting to give this RR landmark scenery a nickname. It might be a whole lot easier if I tell my shooting compatriot: “Check out the shot behind that farm place just off 24 hwy”. Rather than the clumsy description written below:
1. & 2. UP 8250 approaches St Marys, KS about to pass behind the “J. B. Pearl Farm Equipment & Fertilizer Supply Co just off of US highway 24 on the west side of town”. You never know what sort of farm machinery will be stashed along the track... 3. UP 8024 has DP duty on this April 9, 2023. Thanks for looking! texchief1 Randy Date: 05/24/23 11:43 Re: Behind 'that farm place' Author: MacBeau Lance, shouldn't this be "St. Mary"? I ask because that's how my old RR map lists it on the line from Manhattan to Topeka.

NO. Your old map is in error. It's been St Marys every single day of the soon-to-be 68 years I've been on this planet. I'd say go check Google Maps or a DeLorme atlas or a Rand-McNally map or...... any of a bazillion other map sources. Do a Wikipedia search for your 'St. Mary' and see what ya get... ;^) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/24/23 14:00 by santafe199.
