Dumpling clouds make a sunset
Author: santafe199

Contrary to a widely held belief, railfan photographers get along just fine with clouds. Of course, a lot would depend on the size and placement of said clouds... (snickering)

1. BNSF 4221 leads a 1x2 grain empty through tiny Oak Hill, KS. I picked up this train down in Abilene, and with “dumpling clouds” like these in the sky I’ll chase it as far as I can.

2. & 3. Swivel around for a couple of away shots from Burr Oak Rd at Oak Hill. It’s 5:04 PM.

With just over 2 hours & a handful of locations in between we’re now in the final sequence at the US hwy 36 crossing just NW of Courtland, KS.

4. At 7:09 PM we’re looking SW from the US 36 highway shoulder. Here is the 4221 posed against some blue hour color. But...

5. & 6. ...swing about 45 degrees to the right and this ensemble is silhouetted against another killer Kansas sunset.

Thanks for riding along!

You've turned this sunset stuff into an art form Lance. Just beautiful.

Thank-you sir, but I defer to the Master Artist. I just engage the shutter button at some very opportune times. And it's probably a good thing I don't have any pesky mountains to work around... ;^)

"Ole buttermilk sky
I'm a-keeping my eye peeled on you
What's the good word tonight
Are you gonna be mellow tonight?

Ole buttermilk sky
Can't you see my little Nissan and me?
We're as happy as a Christmas tree
Headin' for what I love

I'm gonna pop a few pictures, train pictures
On the B-N Santa Foo.
It'll be easy, so easy
If I can only bank on you

Ole buttermilk sky
I'm a-tellin' you why, now you know
Keep it in mind tonight
Keep a-brushin' those clouds from sight

Ole buttermilk sky
Dont'cha fail me when I'm on the chase
Give that little ole sun some space
While I'm doing what I love."

Excellent paraphrasing! But...  I didn't realize you were SO OLD!!! Mr Carmichael was just a wee bit before my time, as decrepit as that may be. :^)
