Western Railroad Discussion > Solo C4 shoving hard on rear of unit "frac" sand train- Fargo, NDDate: 05/28/23 21:07 Solo C4 shoving hard on rear of unit "frac" sand train- Fargo, ND Author: jmulhol2 A solo GE ES44C4, BNSF #6893 (built: ??/????), shoves hard on the rear of this swift-moving 2x1 westbound loaded unit "frac" sand train (made up entirely of two-bay covered hopper cars) seen here passing on Main Track #1 on the BNSF KO Subdivision (aka - the "Northern Transcon") in downtown Fargo, ND, during the sunny, windy, and warm lunchtime hour of 05/28/2023. The head end power consisted of a BNSF GE ET44C4 and a Norfolk Southern motor. This sand, which more than likely originated at mines in Wisconsin, is bound for unloading onto trucks and/or silos out in the Bakken oilfield of western North Dakota and is used in "hydraulic fracking" to extraction of oil and gas from underneath Earth's surface.
