Western Railroad Discussion > The one that almost got awayDate: 05/29/23 08:07 The one that almost got away Author: santafe199 This was the 29th & final train of my “banner day” down on the Emporia Sub. I had planned to shoot my last shots from Theater Hill down at Matfield. This time of the year the late evening sunlight is gorgeous for eastbound trains. I was set up for this one, but at the last minute it was sent over the normal “directional running” path through Wichita & Newton. The only reason I caught it was because I was making my way toward Strong City and KS hwy 177 for the northward trek home. This was just one more little piece of the fantastic karma I was experiencing all day long... :^)
1. BNSF 7435 leads eastbound train Q LACNWH 4/25L on the La Junta Sub just east of Strong City, KS. It’s 7:33 PM on May 26, 2023. When I saw the gates activate, I stopped in the middle of Uw Rd and left my headlights shining on bright... Caught ya didn’t I, ya little varmint! Posted from iPhone Added: I found a great substitute running parallel to 177: “old hwy 13” can be accessed a little ways south of I-70 via Moritz Rd/Old hwy 18. Old 13 runs straight south and puts me on KS 4. A short jog east then I’m back on 177 all the way down to Strong City… Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/30/23 17:25 by santafe199. |
