Why bother. Most of the work is done by the diesels behind.

I think I would like this better if it was a raffle for the cabride.  Maybe charge $25 per ticket.   That's 400 tickets to raise $10k.  I'd probably buy one for that amount, but as it is, there's no way I'll even sniff at this opportunity as awesome as it would be.  TBH, a raffle might even raise more funds than an auction.  But now, it's someone with a spare $10k who will buy the cabride.

My $.02

Lots of folks are hollering scam or fake or whatever but this is legitimate. Ed Dickens has confirmed it. The U.P. museum Facebook page has published the post 4 hours ago in their page. The U.P. has also unit out on their official steam club page.

Yes I have received confirmation it is legit. And I am also notifying the UP RR Museum that they bungled this by doing things backwards. As I pointed out, lots of red flags. If this was done properly those red flags would not have been there.

When I was pilot engineer from Omaha to Boone, the diesel behind it only was used for some dynamic braking to keep from using the train's brakes.  That was leaving Carroll heading for the CP at East Carroll at restricted speed under train control.  It was never used for power.  That was the same experiences that other pilot engineers had that I talked to on the Iowa portion of that 2019 trip.

The story is a bit different from the various Pilot Engineers out west, where the ascending grades are.

It's at $16,351 now.

For a 1.5 hour cab ride from Pine Bluffs WY to Cheyenne.

Standing room only.

You can hear the diesel working hard in some of the videos posted back in 2019. (this is NOT debatable)

I gave advice privately to some people on how to chase the 4014 (message dated 10/1/2019), and I followed my own advice and got 4014 running on relatively flat ground in Utah and Arizona. Got good visuals and sounds. 4014 wasn't "broken in" yet in 2019, so maybe the Big Boy runs better now.
