Stored Power in Nebraska/Wyoming Question
Author: bravesfan

Departing on a trip to Nebraska and Wyoming.  Checking to see if power still stored in Alliance, Edgemont, Donkey Creek, and Bill.  Last time we were there was in 2020, so things may have changed.  In addition, any more areas of stored power?

Still plenty of stored BNSF locomotives at Donkey Creek.  Not sure about Bridgeport...that's where lease-return SD70MACs went for inspection.  Most if not all have left.

...checking the internal computers...

OK, here are the system wide numbers as of 9/10/23 of "BNSF Locomotives By Station" (only listing stations with ~50 or more locomotives on site...). This is simply showing the number of BNSF numbered diesel electric locomotives currently marked at each station, not their status as good, bad, or stored power.

Alliance, NE ~ 247
Barstow, CA ~ 155
Chicago, IL ~ 98
Cicero, IL ~ 124
Denver, CO ~ 49
Donkey Creek, WY ~ 199
El Paso, TX ~ 46
Galesburg, IL ~ 88
Galveston, TX ~ 81
Glendive, MT ~ 71
Kansas City, KS ~ 144
Lincoln, NE ~ 103
Los Angeles, CA ~ 69
Memphis, TN ~ 111
Minot, ND ~ 109
Northtown, MN ~ 250
Pasco, WA ~ 57
Rozet, WY ~ 115
Temple, TX ~ 54
Topeka, KS ~ 456
Tulsa, OK ~ 43

That's 2,669 locomotives. Now again I'm by no means implying that every single one of these units at each station is just sitting there rusting to the rails, but make a guess yourselves folks (based on the remoteness of many of these locations and the numbers of engines "on hand"), which stations are really being highlighted for stored/mothballed motive power?

Thank you MrMRL for these numbers.  VERY interesting.  That's a lot of stored power.  I wonder how this compares to U.P.?
