Western Railroad Discussion > One more RM picture and 2 UP trains

After chasing the Rocky Mountaineer down the Dotsero Cutoff on Wednesday Sept. 27 (yesterday's post) I decided the next morning to get up early and drive quite a ways on dirt roads and then walk into a location West of De Beque, CO to get the early morning run of the Westbound RM as it headed into Grand Jct.
On Monday and Thursday's, the RM makes a round trip from Glenwood down to Seven Mile on the Cane Creek Branch and then returns back to Glenwood Springs late in the afternoon. Also this days train was packed with Passengers which was nice to see.

1) Heading through Sulphur Gulch at the bottom of "Gravel Hill" and approaching Akin Siding, the Passenger train looked Great in the early morning light!

2) Following behind the RM by about 20 minutes or so was a Westbound Union Pacific empty coal train that will turn South at GJ to head down the N. Fork Branch and load at the W. Elk Mine. My dog decided that she wanted to be in the picture:}

3) Next up was the Eastbound Minturn Local with a pair of SD70m's that is leaving De Beque Canyon with Akin siding seen in the background. This Local runs to Lacy on Sunday and Tuesday, all the way to Gypsum on Monday and to Glenwood Springs on Thursday. There was no setout for Glenwood on this day but the power had to run light to Glenwood to pick up empty Mag. Chloride Tank cars. 

Thanks for all the compliments on my two previous posts! It was nice to get out, dust off the camera and enjoy this Beautiful Fall weather that we have been having out here in Western Colorado:}

Nice shots John! The GP-40s do add something to the appearance of the train. And the shot of Wonder Dog in #2 is a nice addition, too!
