Western Railroad Discussion > Iowa Traction: Outstanding Railroad Historic Preservation AwardDate: 10/03/23 04:09 Iowa Traction: Outstanding Railroad Historic Preservation Award Author: JPB Kudos to Iowa Traction and its owner Progress Rail for being recipient of the inaugural “Outstanding Railroad Historic Preservation Award" presented by NRHS, Railway Age, and Railway Track & Structures. The intent of the award is “to honor and recognize a North American common-carrier railroad for a historically significant preservation project.” Excerpt:
"...Iowa Traction Railway, a subsidiary of Progressive Rail Inc., is the last functional interurban freight railroad in North America. Its rolling stock continues to function for its original purpose: moving freight to customers. All its interurban electric locomotives are more than 100 years old, and while not restored, are repaired and maintained in a manner consistent with their original construction..." Iowa Traction was up against strong competition with four other finalists being Arkansas & Missouri RR, Everett RR, Reading and Northern RR, and Union Pacific RR (!), Links to relevant Railway Age articles: Iowa Traction Receives Historic Preservation Award 5 Finalists for Historic Preservation Award |
