Passing of IHB RR's Leo Pauwels
Author: BurtNorton

Leo worked for the IHB RR in various marketing and sales capacities, was an avid train buff, and a walking encyclopedia of Chicago railroading.  He was set to retire in less than 6 months.

His obituary is here:

I never knew Leo Pauwels, but the obituary describes a wonderful human being with a great sense of humor.  The obituary is a little different than others I've read (in a good way).

Many years ago, I ordered a Chicago area railroad map from the IHB.  I wonder if he was involved in making these publicly available.

My condolences to his family.  May he rest in peace.

I never met him, but the IHB employees I've known over the years have had nothing but good things to say about him.  It's a bitter irony that he was taken from us with his retirement imminent.

Condolences to his family.

An old friend of mine. Hadn't seen him in several years but would get together with him and other friends in various spots around Indiana, Ohio and Illinois for train watching and socializing.
