Southern Idaho Odds n Ends
Author: funnelfan

This former Grand Trunk Western / Central Vermont Railway GP9 is a little far from home working at The Andersons elevator in Bliss, ID just off the UP mainline. This former Lansing Trading Co facility mostly distributes feed to local cattle ranches and the old girl shuffles the loaded hoppers through the unloading shed.

Watco's Boise Valley RR is a busy little railroad based in Nampa, ID where it interchanges with the UP. It operates over the former UP Boise mainline to Boise and beyond and spurs off that line as well as the Caldwell-Wilder Branch. One of the locals switches a dense and active industrial area that straddles I-84 in north Nampa, ID with a maze of spurs and many customers.I just happened to catch them this past Tuesday as they were shoving a load of new John Deere tractors down to Campbell Tractor dock, then respotted tankcars at the agri-chemical dealer on the same spur before going to spot more tankcars at the DuBois / BHS Specialty Chemical Co.

That old geep has been there for at 25 years. And still looks pretty much the same as it did when it arrived although I have seen it much dirtier.

Some of the cars they had in the train included the OTTX flatcar with John Deere 8R 310 and 340 tractors, as well as a new Pacific Steel and Recycling gondola, albeit the logo is already getting scratched up.

After finishing switching Nampa the train departed for Meridian.

Last Sunday I found a Eastern Idaho RR train tied down in Jerome, ID.

Over at the Idaho Farm & Ranch Museum between Jerome and Twin Falls, ID is the UP 43065T, a triple deck stock car that was equipped with roller bearing trucks for high speed service on hotshot trains into the 80's. Nearby was it's over-the-highway replacement in the form of a cab-over freightliner with Dobbas cattle trailer.

The Idaho Farm & Ranch Museum (IFARM) is also home to the Northside Model Railroad Association club which has a nice sized HO scale layout.

Nicely weathered SP RS32 although looks like some SP lighting is missing.

Nice series.  Sure is nice to see older and standard cab geeps still in service.

Pic 1 is great! Leave it up to Watco to pull a rabbit out the hat!
