We had received over a foot of snow Friday night and another half foot Saturday night. I snowshoed to West Norden to see what was running, and I wasn't disappointed. Despite some compaction of Friday night's snow, I still found adding the extension tails to the snowshoes advantageous. (It's a nice feature of the MSR snowshoes.) The 6" refresh Saturday night which continued with lingering snow showers into Sunday was enough to make the trees and surrounding terrain look nice and wintery.
Photos 1 through 3: I had just missed the eastbound Z train when I arrived at my parking spot, but I had enough time to get to West Norden and catch the flanger heading east back to Truckee on Main 1. ( It's always nice to have the Norden sheds come into view with a signal indication for train movement through the control point, as it's only a matter of time.) I don't dabble with modeling, but the snow service Geeps such as UP 566 and UP 572 seen here would be fun custom models for sure. Notice how many subtle differences there are just between these two similarly configured locomotives. Continued... UP 566 has a diverging advance approach (red over flashing yellow) through the control point at West Norden.
