Western Railroad Discussion > Trip to Tehachapi last monthDate: 04/04/24 21:00 Trip to Tehachapi last month Author: oyw I’ve been putting this off for a long while but back on March 9, my friend Mike and I drove up to Tehachapi to meet with John (SP8595) visiting from Colorado, his dad Joe and Jeff (SPgoletablock). John posted his shots several weeks so now I’m finally getting around to posting a few of mine. With one exception, I tried not to post the same locations as John.
1) The first stop of the morning was overlooking Cable crossover where eastbound BNSF 4468 has a high green. 2) With the 4468 still in the background, a westbound manifest appears behind a nice mixture of power, BNSF 7566, CSXT 3339, 890 and BNSF 526. 3) Next we got notified that BNSF SD70ACe 8540 was leading an eastbound out of Bakersfield so we headed north, making it as far as Bealville for this last second grab shot. Date: 04/04/24 21:02 Re: Trip to Tehachapi last month Author: oyw 4) With favorable light, we decided to chase the 8540 back toward Mojave setting up off of the freeway at Cable.
5) The rear DP on this train wasn’t bad either, with BNSF 8022 and NS 4273. 6) Then it was down to Warren for one last shot of the 8540. Date: 04/04/24 21:05 Re: Trip to Tehachapi last month Author: oyw 7) Next, John alerted us of an outward facing Warbonnet DPU heading our way so we met up with Jeff, who was already set up at Woodford. Here, I played around photographing the lead motor BNSF 8381 through some oak tree branches.
8) The rear DP set of KCS 4013 and BNSF 721 was what we were really waiting for. 9) Now 12:30PM, another DP going away shot on the next train, BNSF 6501. Even though we had talked with each other all morning long, it wasn’t until now that we all finally met up. We hung out together for the rest of the day as the clouds began to thicken, leaving us with only an occasional burst of sun. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/04/24 21:18 by oyw. Date: 04/04/24 21:09 Re: Trip to Tehachapi last month Author: oyw 10) The one duplicate train and location, I took a long hike with Jeff and John to wait above Marcel for a vehicle train with a unit on each end, BNSF 8267 was on the lead. John’s shot was taken from a slightly higher vantage.
11) On the back end was BNSF 4215. Right after this shot, the sun was pretty much done although we did attempt a couple of more trains before throwing in the towel. 12) We met up in Tehachapi for dinner at Domingo’s, a favorite spot. Even though I don’t know my way around Tehachapi very well we managed to have a great day, especially the part where we got to visit with all our friends. Thanks to all for looking, OYW Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/04/24 21:23 by oyw. Thanks for sharing a really nice series with some good perspectives. It doesn't look like the wildflowers are out yet. My favorite is your 2nd picture with the ex-Warbonnet B40-8W trailing. Unlike the GP60Ms, I wasn't sure if any of these were left on the BNSF roster - as I recall seeing some in shortline/regional service (Providence & Worcester).

Enjoyed the report! Friends and Tehachapi mix very well, as I did such a trip almost a year ago. Date: 04/06/24 08:23 Re: Trip to Tehachapi last month Author: Atsf814 Great shots Bob.
