Western Railroad Discussion > Single Unit Wonder - EB UP Empty Grain Dutch Flat Last MonthDate: 04/18/24 11:41 Single Unit Wonder - EB UP Empty Grain Dutch Flat Last Month Author: FiveChime The empty grain cars move east over Donner most every day. Lately UP has been trying to
move them with less power with only one unit on the point and one shoving on the rear of a decent sized train. When they have more cars to move the train usually gets several units on the point and twice as many cars than on this train from last month. Whenever it was at the steepest part of the grade (just west of Gold Run and Towle) it was down to crawling speed. Whenever the head end or DPU power hit a rail greaser it almost stalled. They ended up parking it at Midas for additional power.

There is no reason they can't put more power on these. texchief1 Date: 04/18/24 18:08 Re: Single Unit Wonder - EB UP Empty Grain Dutch Flat Last Month Author: BoilingMan These poor things are pain full to watch- they really seem under powered. I can't imagine the crews like 'em much.
