"Train theft suspects arrested in the Cajon Pass"
Author: TheNavigator

According to the above-titled article linked below, the perps used a stolen vehicle to stop a BNSF train in Cajon Pass yesterday evening. After halting the train (presumably by stopping the stolen car on the tracks at a grade crossing), they broke into several containers and began stealing the contents before fleeing from law enforcement, who succeeded in rounding them up. Just another occurrence that contributes to the loss of enjoyment of railfanning Cajon.

Since this is in San Bernardino County, I think there is at least a chance that these thugs will actually be prosecuted, unlike if it occurred in LA County.  Too bad it didn't happen in Riverside County, as they have a DA that is actually very tough on criminals.

As usually happens "authorities" are watching the area around Yuma closer now so the criminals go elsewhere. They go where they think law enforcement isn't.

I've been seeing less open doors on UP lately and more on BNSF.

Should be prosecuted as Federal crime. Interstate commerce. Get it away from local authorities.

Watch all the trains on Tehachipa both UP and BNSF have open door on containers and box cars. Wednesday today the UP had open container 10 on a south and the north train got the high wide detector on the Metrolink today for open doors.
BNSF had a few box car doors open on south (east) trains today.

We need a bunch of conductors like the one Ernest Borgnine played in "Emperor of the North".

Gentlemen there's something very cool about being a train robber as long as no one gets hurt.

The secret used to be don't get caught but it appears getting caught ain't but a thang these days.

Have found valuable booty along the tracks out here. Was told by RR and shipper (and you guys) to keep anything found.

If the Nevada Sub on the Overland is the new Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid crime target am definitely going to keep on the lookout for trackside treasures.

Not just RR stuff going on not much gets done when they are caught doing anything including violent crime. Catch and release or little time served back out catching up on theft again so they can make money. Ongoing problems with prosecution exist everywhere.

Retired after 32 years in train service I have to say you can stick that right back up where it came from!

Train robberies are a fact of life nowadays.
There's no stopping it.

I suspect that a sheriff in a hard line jurisdiction might drive some would-be train robbers to do their dirty deeds in the next county.  But, that requires some cooperation and $ from the railroad, and a magistrate who will hold the evil doers for a while, pre-trial.

in this day and age, i would think "proactive police work" might be difficult with a lot of agencies needing more officers/deputies............
