Western Railroad Discussion > IC SD70 1000 becomes an unofficial heritage unitDate: 04/28/24 13:08 IC SD70 1000 becomes an unofficial heritage unit Author: inCHI At some point recently, IC SD70 1000 lost it's yellow striping and regained white stripes, giving it back the as-delivered appearance - although without a wash. Looks neat, even in the dark. The first chance I had to see it was at night leading, which is what these three shots show. It's on L537 to Glenn Yard in Chicago. In the first picture, it's holding at 16th St. First for a Metra Rock Island train, then for Amtrak 306 to come in, then finally for the last inbound SWS Metra train of the day. Finally, at 11pm, it passes under 18th St.

6. From the nearly the same pedestrian vantage point... another day's L537. Sometimes with later sunset it makes it into Chicago in daylight. Date: 04/28/24 13:14 Re: IC SD70 1000 becomes an unofficial heritage unit Author: inCHI Last few shots -
7. On yet another day, this is L536 heading through 16th St. Not much has visibly happened here in a long time. The SCAL bridge is still up and out of service, the track leading to it is ballasted by not in place from the diamond. The CN movements are still using the old curve/alignment pending the eventual rebuild of the trackage around the diamond. 8/9. Recently M337 had an eclectic consist that included a DAIR GP9 2505. It even still has class lights. Date: 04/28/24 13:49 Re: IC SD70 1000 becomes an unofficial heritage unit Author: Roadmaster Good catch! It's nice to see the white sill stripes on the 1000.

Among other things, the St. Charles Airline segment that weaves through buildings and under the L continues to be a really neat, unique segment to see. I remember years ago when there was discussion of CN stopping use of it... I'm glad that wasn't the outcome. Date: 04/28/24 18:44 Re: IC SD70 1000 becomes an unofficial heritage unit Author: Milwaukee Can anyone explain in this day how it could lose the yellow stripes and regain (reappear after yellow taken off?) the white? Is it correct to assume there has been no change in the rules preventing white from being compliance colored side stripes?
