Western Railroad Discussion > A short chase from yesterday.Date: 05/15/24 06:16 A short chase from yesterday. Author: ns2557 Had to be in Colorado Springs for an appt yesterday am. Before leaving home I was able to get a line up of what might be around about the time I was finished with that. Well, as things sometimes happen, delays occur. Blew a tire on my way into the appt. Seeing how I did not want to spend awhole lot of time waiting for this to get fixed I placed a call to AAA. (Gettin old ain't for wussies and I can't do the crawling, sittin things to well anymore so, what I would normally have done just a few short years ago, I had someone else come and do the deed for me) That worked well overall as it allowed me some extra time to get a few of the trains I knew where en route to where I was. Turned into a nice chase and a few other trains as well. I'll put the what/where in the captions.
Shot 1. SB BNSF SD70ACe 8542 leads SB Oil Loads U WGNCBX0 01T south thru the siding at Bijou in Colorado Springs. This one came from the load out at Wellington Ut and is headed for Clovis NM. Came over the Moffat into Denver then south on the Joint Line. Not sure where it goes down Clovis way, but we see this one around these parts occasionally. 91L of oil behind the power at 12526T, Shot 2. MoW was working down Kelker way here in Colorado Springs which kinda slowed this one down. Enough so that I was able to get shots of a rolling meet between the 8542 and this NB H SLADEN1 12A as they both went thru the Bijou area of Colorado Springs. BNSF SD70ACe 8526 has BNSF 3956 and 8095 leading the SLADEN with BNSF 6566 as a rear DPU. And that is something that seems to be new on this train lately. A DPU on the rear. Have seen a few SLADEN's of late with these on back end. Shot 3. Listening to radio chatter heard that the plan was to run the Oil Train and another SB down Main 2 as far as North Bragdon. This is somewhat unusual as Main 1 is the preferred way for SB's thru here, and that track is to the left a 1/4 mile or so. This is also where the connecting lead off Main 2 from Ray Nixon Plant of CSU gets back on UP Tracks to head back north. This is at North Nixon, on the South side of Fountain Co where the bridge over Fountain Creek is. So, knowing there were at least 2 SB's headed down Main 2, thought I'd get a shot as they came over the bridge here. And, here is BNSF ES44C4 CTU 4246 on SB H DENAMS1 14 as they cross the bridge here. With most SB's going down Main 1, this is a somewhat hard shot to get. One has to be at the right place at the right time. (Ain't that true with alot of shots tho.) Overall, a nice day. Weather was decent to go along with it all. Thanks for stopping by. Be well, stay safe. Ben ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 05/15/24 07:01 Re: A short chase from yesterday. Author: SP8595 Neat trio!
