Western Railroad Discussion > Iowa Interstate on east leg of Yocum Connection wyeDate: 06/17/24 22:13 Iowa Interstate on east leg of Yocum Connection wye Author: highgreengraphics A southbound Iowa Interstate symbol CRIC leaves the Cedar Rapids branch IAIS Subdivision 3B to join the Main Line, Subdivision 3 eastbound at Milepost 259.0 on the east leg of the Yocum Connection (formerly CRANDIC Jct.) between Homestead and S. Amana, IA on May 7, 2024. It is led by Class Unit (of eventually 20 GE ES44AC's) IAIS 500, built in July of 2008. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City (a shareholder of IAIS) purchased 23 miles of the Cedar Rapids line from the Milwaukee Road in 1981, and turned most of the line from the Yocum connection to Fairfax (yard near Cedar Rapids) over to IAIS in September of 2010. === === = === JLH

Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 06/18/24 09:39 Re: Iowa Interstate on east leg of Yocum Connection wye Author: highgreengraphics This train went straight to Iowa City, dropped most of its cars there, heard CRIC on the radio, and 500 was at Silvis the next day by itself still facing east. === === = === JLH

GK Date: 06/19/24 07:35 Re: Iowa Interstate on east leg of Yocum Connection wye Author: tracklight CRANDIC didn't turn the line over to IAIS, but they did turn over through freight operations to IAIS and later dispatching of the line to IAIS. CIC retains ownership and maintenance of the track.
