Sundays are always fun for me chasing the CPKFC in North Texas. Caught the L31 local (BNSF Alliance yard Haslet TX to CPKC Wylie) coming back eastbound to Dallas yard rolling thru Plano TX. Weather was overcast but could of been worse. However not often you catch this job with Geeps + 1 SD22ECO (ex SD40P). CPKC is so messed up after the merger. Crew availbilty to run trains is getting worse. They ran this train on Friday morning 08/31/24 westbound and it got tied down at East Metro jct in Krum TX for 36 hours before it moved again. They put a crew on it Sunday morning, and I caught them coming back thru Plano on Sunday morning 09/02/24 to only see them get to Richardson TX and have to tie it down again due to working 12 hours. They stopped at Arapaho Road and cut of the engines and a few cars to pull past the crossing. Then to find out after the crew got into the taxi they still had a major road crossing blocked at Campbell Rd in Richardson TX due to a faulty counter and 7000 feet of train. And a lot of angry motorist. Police called CPKC and they had to send the yard job at Wylie to get on the train and fix the mistake. It was a cluster frac Sunday morning. Train finally got a new crew around 4 pm that afternoon. Was the End of the CPKC shenanigans. Since the merger. Its a whole different ball game. Crews are quiting. They dont have enough crews to run trains. And the morale is at an all time low. PSR is not good.

Excellent. Talked to engineer in Monroe, LA, earlier this year. With fifteen years seniority, lives in Shreveport but due to numerous jobs cut off can only hold job in Monroe, more than a hundred miles east.

Yes the CPKC has ruined a good railroad KCS. Sad to see it happening. I've seen so many dsyfunctional things making my head spin 360. El' specially when they run PSR trains 1 X 1 and then loose 1 engine due to mechanical issue causing a domino effect stopping the train in its tracks. Train cant move and have to send a rescue engine and usually the crew are at the end of there service hours. If only the knucklehead management allowed the train to run 2 X 1 instead of 1 X 1 and the PSR trains would make it to the yard. But no. We cant run with extra motive power. Dummies!
