I am fortunate to be in Kansas City for a few days, which gave me an opportunity to chase part of the UP Big Boy 4014 tour today.   These first photos are just before it left Kansas City, MO Union station, then at Santa Fe Junction, then above Lawrence, KS along US 59 close to Midland, KS.

Two from Topeka by the Great Overland station where it was being services and on display.   Really big, well behaved crowd from what I saw.
I headed west of town to Menoken Rd, and we had a bit of wait as they picked up some clean freight cars and caboose in Topeka Yard, which I understand that they had for an earlier part of the tour.

Last two and a video from Menoken Rd.   And I apologize for the quality of the photos, I usually run everything through photoshop to adjust exposure, but I don't have it installed on my work computer which accompanied me on my trip.

And now the UP freights....

While waiting above Lawrence along US 58, a one-unit wonder 118-car mixed freight made its way through.  Shortly thereafter, a large 2 X 1 intermodal came down and stopped at Lawrence.   It was a good half hour before the Big Boy then headed through here, with the intermodal's hind cars strung out across the crossings and along the fieldside.

The traffic following the 4014 was quite heavy along US 58 and 24 toward Topeka, and I spied a rack train starting to head east after the 4014 passed near Midland, so I doubled back and grabbed a shot of it near Midland.

While the 4014 was in Topeka, predictably, all the freight movements stopped, then the floodgates opened after 4014 got out of town.  Hot on his heals was a west bound oil train, which I also got at Menoken, with a filthy unit for the rear DPU.

Another oil train showed up, this time eastbound, which I got at Brickyard Rd.   I have no idea whether either of these oil were loaded or empty.

There was a coal train behind this one which i screwed up moving to a different location, and then when I got back to the area near the yard and the Great Overland  Station, I saw that an intermodal had come across the bridge over the Kansas River and was heading east.    Then I was about ready to leave, and a signal lit up for a westbound, which I got near the station.   This one also went across the river, and was a mix of intermodal and autoracks.    Not a bad day.   We'll see what tomorrow holds at Union station, Santa Fe junction, and some other locations around Kansas City.

Okay for all these postings. Wonderful! Thanks, My son works for Uncle Pete but has never seen 4014 in person and would like to, desiring to also include me in that experience. Maybe, just maybe...

The EB crude oil (thence south from KC) would be loads, WB empty back to the Moffat over the KP.
