BNSF HVRNBAR with Metrolink F59PHIs 10/16/24

I'm posting this pretty late, but haven't been able to edit my pictures until today. Back on Oct 16, BNSF took eight retired Metrolink F59PHIs from Vernon to Barstow (California) for the first leg of their journey to Mexico (where they are reportedly going to be rebuilt, drilled out engine cores and all). Both the weather gods and railroad logistics gods were against me. It was a dark grey day (even though the Weather App showed it clearing). The train itself had already pulled out of the LAJ yard by the time I arrived and was parked in a spot in River Yard that was difficult to get any angle on. Grabbed some shots there and then headed to Commerce, where I figured I would get a wedgie with a nice angle to show the F59s, but fate struck again, as an inbound train waiting to enter Hobart took up the track I was hoping the Vernbar would use, and they were up against me instead, on the platform track. Still a cool event and glad I went out and got these.

Back when I was working, I would have never dreamed a long heavy freight would be using that industrial trackage along the LA River.

I like those shots, an underrated section of railway.
