Western Railroad Discussion > On the road again . . .Date: 10/30/24 19:23 On the road again . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . this morning the northern most job was pulling the empty acid cars near the end of the line on the north side of the plant in Morenci, AZ, (top) a half mile or so further south (middle). In FEB, this is a far as I got before rupturing my right quad tenden bringing an upbrupt end to this portion of the trip. Surgery, eight months and numerous PT appointments later I returned yesterday to finish what I started. The other job was pumping up the interchange train air (bottom) before making the treacherous decent from the plant to Clayton, AZ, a distance of only a few miles but nearly a thousand foot descent. . . nine more . . .

I have only been twice but each time one job used four geeps and the other that make the descent used five. Here, the interchange job is just leaving McMoran property (top) making the decent to Cayton where and AZER job will be waiting. Just a bit further along the train crosses it's first public crossing outside the plant (middle) and in Clayton, the McMoran job has handed the AZER it's first part of the train before grabbing the second cut and coupling it to the AZER job (bottom). I am not sure if this is normal or not as the interchange was forty cars? MAYBE, when cuts are too big for the small interchange yard in town they do this? The AZER job ended up leaving with the train heading to a small yard six or eight miles away and the McMoran job went back up the hill to the plant lite engine. . . . six more . . .

Author: 3rdswitch . . . for some reason a crewman was riding outside coming up the hill out of Clayton (top) but was not there a quarter mile ahead at a crossing (middle) after which I chased down the AZER job approaching the small yard south of town (bottom). . . . last three coming . .

Author: 3rdswitch . . . ended up in Holbrook, AZ, this evening with trains lined up all the way to Holbrook waiting to get into Winslow (top) then was able to get literal last rays of sunlight on beautifully painted Apache unit at east end of Holbrook yard (middle) and a lucky Z train flying by passing all the parked trains on main one (top).
