Posted from Android Date: 11/12/24 20:17 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: weather I have known Drew for 50 years. His body of work stands along. One of the greatest lensmaan to hold and shoot a camera. He suffered thru health issues for many years, but more importantly he shared his vast archive with many. May be Elrond might know where is collection is going. A great Gentleman and stands shoulders above many others for his talents and quality of work. Mike Pechner

Date: 11/12/24 21:12 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: santafe199 Mike, that was a very nice sentiment you delivered about Drew. I never met the man, but I have admired his photography since coming aboard TO back in ‘11. It’s always sad losing a fellow railfan photographer. But this great hobby promotes the kind of kinship that makes you feel like you knew the guy. A true fraternity (women included) among kindred souls. Hi-ball, Drew, clear signals are yours…

Took a lot of iconic photos in the Bay Area and from what I could tell had a distinctive style. He seemed to be very talented with processing his slides on computer. A lot of his shots that he shared generously seem pretty much perfect.
Date: 11/12/24 22:31 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: dan Drew , The photo is of Southern Pacific Railroad train #52 the San Joaquin Daylight passing over the Tehachapi Loop in April of 1971. The caption reads "One of my personal favorites of all the slides I have shot. SP's San Joaquin Daylight as it passed over the Loop in April of 1971. But who was that girl? Her face and wave have stuck in my mind for years."Drew Jacksich 09/22/1946 - 11/12/2024
..we have looked at this pic here on t/o a lot too, i only met him in 2009 during 4449 outings to the east and back, he and his kid were flipping me off, finally talked to him, suprised he was nice, his pictures were soo good i didn't mind Drew was very opinionated , for some reason he needled richard nixon , logger Hogger, and Todd gave him a time out, which ended up being his swan song, he blessed us with a treasure trove, greens buddy, his pain is gone, he is hanging with alcos perhaps Edited 2 time(s). He was drew1946 on here for a number of years before leaving the site (or at least ceasing to post) in 2008. Every so often, he mentioned his desire to have his slide collection destroyed upon his passing lest it get scattered to the four winds and credited to other people. The last time he wrote about it, it sounded like he was reconsidering that stance, and I certainly hope he did.

To me, it couldn't have been staged better.
Date: 11/13/24 04:43 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: trainjunkie I met Drew one time in 2008 during a 3751 chase. As we waited for the big Northern we struck up a conversation and he turned out to be quite a fascinating character. His photography was legendary. Rest in Peace Sir.
Date: 11/13/24 05:55 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: PasadenaSub Sorry to read this, RIP Drew. I only met him a few times - at Winterail and once in Salinas, CA around 2005 where I had detrained from Amtrak #11 headed for LA to get some pictures.
I didn't realize that our train had a pair of Caltrain units added to the point, and he had been chasing us all the way from San Jose. Date: 11/13/24 06:08 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: wpdude Sad news indeed. Rest in Peace...

Date: 11/13/24 14:00 Re: Drew Jacksich Author: cchan006 I had the honor of running into Drew on many occasions, in and out of California, and especially when I was becoming active with raifanning more than a decade ago. Rest in Peace, sir.
Date: 11/13/24 14:20 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: stevef Drew Jacksich lived in San Jose and was an almost 50 year Central Coast Railroad Club (Central Coast NRHS) member. We enjoyed his wit and acerbic comments at our monthly meetings which he did not withhold. He was a faithful member and generously contributed to many programs over the years from his vast slide collection of shots that few others got. He continued to attend our metings even though his health began to decline faithfully brought by his caregiver. Sorry to the loss to Matt, his family and friends. RIP.

Date: 11/13/24 14:57 Re: Drew Jackcish Author: Cdogh Crossed paths with Drew and his traveling buddy many times out around the tracks. Yes, he was the type of guy who would always speak his mind, but I found that amusing more than anything. The guy was never concerned with being politically correct : >) . . Every photograph I've ever seen by him has been first class. I think he started photographing trains in the 60s didn't he ? I think he told me one time he was around 15 or so. (?)
