Western Railroad Discussion > CPKC Symbol/routing updateDate: 11/27/24 20:34 CPKC Symbol/routing update Author: tuxedorailfan CPKC has recently made some adjustments (again) to a hand full of trains. See below:
260: St. Paul to Kansas City 261: Shreveport to St Paul 252: Bensenville, IL to Shreveport 253: KC to Bensenville For a very short time, all 4 of the trains above originated and terminated in Shreveport. That is no longer the case due to Kansas City having a meltdown with the influx of traffic. Over the last couple of weeks, 252 has been terminated every couple of days at the “Luke Yard” in Muscatine, Iowa. Crews will take the train there, yard it, and bring the power engines lite back to Nahant yard. Then 1-2 days later, lite power will go down to Muscatine, rebuild the train and be symboled as “2252-date” and continue on south towards Shreveport. It appears the carrier is doing this to relieve stress in KC since the train still does work there. In other news, there has been an influx of 2253’s (second section of 253) being built out of Nahant. 261 has been setting out large blocks of Chicago traffic. Next on the docket: there is still at least 2-3 2261’s (second section of 261) being built out of Nahant each week as well. 253 has been setting out large blocks of St Paul and Canadian traffic. Last but not least, about once a month there has been an increase in 357 grain trains coming from Texas going north to area grain elevators. I assume Canada. Usually, the going rate is 1-2 per day, but there have been days when 5-6 357’s arrive all in a short period. To relieve stress in St. Paul, the carrier will send 3 north via Marquette to St. Paul, and then the remainder to Chicago. Once in Bensenville, the trains will go to portage and then to St. Paul to burn a day or so to relieve stress. I know most of this is boring, but some folks like this type of information. Somehow I missed the startup of 252/3 going through to KC and beyond but the guys on Facebook got me straightened out. In addition to CP being pretty dead around here (Muscatine) most mornings, I worked our plant shutdown most of October and missed anything that happened during that timeframe.
