Western Railroad Discussion > Quick Shot: Cal Northern 501 at Westley Water TankDate: 11/27/24 20:56 Quick Shot: Cal Northern 501 at Westley Water Tank Author: nickgeorge25 While driving out to Modesto for work yesterday morning, Waze sent me an unusual way through the west valley that involved passing through Westley. Lucky for me, a California Northern train was holding the main right in front of the old water tank in town, which dates back to the 1880's. I grabbed a quick shot on my phone and was on my way again!

Nice shot! Unusual and lucky, indeed. I've been to Westley in 2012 to document a northbound CFNR train. More and more customers are shipping / receiving by rail along this line. And they've done a good job keeping the stick rail in good shape, too--they usually cruise along at 25 m.p.h.
