Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF “Dual” Scheme Engine

On Sunday 11/24/24, I found an eastbound intermodal train at Western Springs IL on BNSF’s Chicago Sub. It was moving slowly on Track 2 and I was somewhat worried an eastbound Metra on Track 3 would block the head end of the freight. Needn’t have worried as it came to a complete stop as Metra sailed by.
The second locomotive, BNSF 4729, sports a center hood section from an older GE with the Warbonnet colors.

Thanks for posting the unique BNSF 4729 with its red and silver scheme mid section.  That unit left Denver, CO, for Chicago, IL, on the Z DENCHI Wednesday, 27 November 2024.

NO sound video.

Interesting, I saw it again this morning in Western Springs. With that symbol, I wonder if this train goes via the Chillicothe Sub connector at Western Avenue and skips Cicero. Trains originating or departing Cicero have ‘CHC’ as part of their train ID.

Its had a rough life

Repaired at some point but this silver hood must have come along later. Its been like this at least since 2019.

Train now goes to Cicero as Z-DENCHC/CHCDEN no longer DENCHI/CHIDEN. For several months now I believe since summer.

 

Looks like a CSX Heritage unit
