Western Railroad Discussion > I Escaped the Sand Traps for this NG PictureDate: 11/29/24 15:31 I Escaped the Sand Traps for this NG Picture Author: spider1319 And, there are many of them between Plaster City and the USG Loadout at Fish Creek. I do not not think I would do again because they are long and deep. But I made it and below is one of many shots I got in April of 2021.Bill Webb

Joel Poland Columbus, NE Date: 11/29/24 15:53 Re: I Escaped the Sand Traps for this NG Picture Author: callum_out Interesting picture and good comments, we ran the one and only Borrego 250 down there a zillion years ago
Kevin rolled the race car under one of those overpasses. As to the road, it's like Mexico, nice smooth graded sections followed by sheer stuck in place. Great picture and adage about the shovel, traction mats and lots of water still holds true. Out Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/29/24 15:54 by callum_out. JB Date: 11/29/24 21:26 Re: I Escaped the Sand Traps for this NG Picture Author: Ryanfuzzhead Super cool. I've been always wanting to go out there but its so far. It looks so weird compared to anything else.

Got stuck once, but caught it early enough that I was able to dig the vehicle out. The sand does drift, and the conditions change, but like you, it pays to be alert when you're out there. This would be a untainted test as you are open minded, tell us what you actually see in the photo to understand how to explain the importance of the photo. It is in the USA. Edited 1 time(s). Bill Web very property named the location (Did you ever ask Google a location such as Plaster city?) Open a atlas. Bill Web even used the company initials USG which stands for the company that makes Sheetrock wall board, United States Gypsum. There are nearly 24 empty hoppers en route to the gypsum quarry at Fish Creek. (you will not find a map showing fish creek). Did you notice the narrow gauge 3' track built on standard 8'6" ties. And that is a diesel built by Bombardier Jy 1982 which years ago was a steam engine. This is the last ng industrial railroad in the USA right above the MEXICO boarder in California. It was classed DL535E and is 1200 HP obtained by USG in 1991 new.
This is a wonderful rare photo of the ng in the desert and I wonder if Bill can share a photo of the loaded train returning to the processing plant at Plaster City, Calif. This is only place un North America where freight rides on NG rails. Edited 6 time(s). Last edit at 12/03/24 16:02 by PlyWoody.
