The tracks are at approx right angles to the usual Santa Ana winds. Date: 01/07/25 12:56 Re: extreme wind forecast for southern California Author: DKay Im currently watching flight ops from LAX (12:54EST). They are currently running reverse ops. Cross winds look rather sporting coming across the sand dunes.
Regards,DK Date: 01/07/25 16:42 Re: extreme wind forecast for southern California Author: pdt Santa Ana winds are Northleasterly. So yea, LAX is "landaing backwards" as we used to say.

Except they land "backwards" every night, winds permitting, for noise abatement. Ontario International is the one landing backwards because of the winds. Normally they land and take off to the west except for when the high winds are blowing out of Cajon Pass. Date: 01/07/25 20:20 Re: extreme wind forecast for southern California Author: GP25 Doesn't the UP and BNSF have restrictions on run empty trailers and containers on their trains?
I remember a few years ago. A stack train with containers was blown off the tracks. I would think with the high wind gusts being in the forecast. I think the next 48 hours might be a little tricky? Jerry Martin Los Angeles, CA Central Coast Railroad Festival Date: 01/07/25 22:31 Re: extreme wind forecast for southern California Author: pdt Winds at 830pm at burbank NNE 58 G 83. Its calmed down since then, but expect a lot of trees down and power out in the SF valley and NE of there, and out thru simi valley to the coast. Strongest winds in that area. Cajon/San Berdoo/riverside not so bad.
Considerable fires Pacific Palisades (no affect on rail lines) and Altadena/pasadena, wich would immediate affect the light rail thru pasadena. Soledad canyon and coast lines may be affected by wind. Fires are not that big acreage wise, but in populated areas and lots of homes and structures destroyed Getting lots of press bc of the number of homes being destroyed, and wind to strong for helicopter water drops. Not that big acreage wise? You are sick. What, you expect a fire to grow to 10,000 acres in 12 hours? The fires are indeed enormous for the time they have been going. Is over 2,000 acres in 12 hours large enough for you? As of right now, there are combined about 6,000 acres of fires burring in the greater LA basin. And that is less than 24 hours since any of them have started. EDIT: As of now, right at the 24 hour mark since the first fire started, the total acres of fire in the greater LA basin is now approaching 16.000. Edited 1 time(s).
