Western Railroad Discussion > P+W bridge collapse, day 4Date: 01/07/25 18:21 P+W bridge collapse, day 4 Author: wye-it This is a follow-up to P+W bridge collapse, day 2
https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5965725 which is a follow-up to Roustabout’s original post on the topic: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5965325 I stopped by the site on my way to work this morning. Light fog wafted through the area just before the sun came up. Rick Franklin crews were still moving rock into place on the south side, and other RFC crews had taken over the parking lot at Pioneer Park on the north side. A small rubber-tired crane was among the equipment there. A large rubber-tired crane and accessories from Forslund Crane of Albany was staged just east of the site, in preparation for deployment later in the day. The railcar in the middle of the river had been righted yesterday. 1: Looking southwest from the highway overpass, RFC crews have taken over the parking lot at Pioneer Park. Mary’s Peak (highest point in the Coast Range @ 4097’) is in the distance. 2: Finished spreading rock? Some trees have been cleared to make room to work. 3: facing upstream (west). That bright spot is not a reflection of the sun, but batteries of work lights below the trees. Three more to follow… Date: 01/07/25 18:22 Re: P+W bridge collapse, day 4 Author: wye-it 4: facing south, away from the yard.
5: a straight down shot from 60 meters 6: the sun finally rose above the fog as my low battery alarm sounded. Wyatt Date: 01/07/25 19:12 Re: P+W bridge collapse, day 4 Author: dendroica Great photos! Thanks for documenting progress. I wonder how they got the submerged car righted, with limited ability to get heavy cranes close to it.

Date: 01/07/25 20:27 Re: P+W bridge collapse, day 4 Author: Gonut1 Great update! I'm not sure I'm seeing anything on site that can get these cars up out of Ste Mary's River. Please continue to monitor this situation. Its appreciated.

No coverage tomorrow; got a 6:30 am meeting to attend and then a full work day, finishing up about when the light disapppears. Maybe Thursday? Just need to get a cable(s) attached to the correct place and apply some pulling power. Date: 01/07/25 21:57 Re: P+W bridge collapse, day 4 Author: roustabout Thanks for posting a follow up on this. I drove by there today but the best I could do was look down from the Hwy 20 overpass (fortunately there was no one behind me). The heavy Forslund crane was set up on the south side of the bridge when I went by.
Do you have any idea where the rear of the train was taken? I noticed those cars were gone today. For Gonut1 - do you remember the collapse of the Klamth River bridge on the Siskiyou line? SP literally dragged the locomotives out of the river, onto the embankment. Thanks, again! Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 01/07/25 22:01 by roustabout. Date: 01/08/25 06:16 Re: P+W bridge collapse, day 4 Author: cjvrr I wonder how the car int he middle of the river was "righted" too. It seemed to have been entangled in the bridge beams. Now the bridge beams are either fully submerged or were removed.

Also, thick fog or steady rain the last couple mornings have prevented aerial photos by me. It's near dark when I get off work. Wyatt |
