Fun Between Indio and Palm Springs (SoCal)

I caught the UP 1943 and UP 1982 on Sunday. Next day, I roamed around between Indio and Palm Springs wherever the radio chatter took me.

- LOH53 at Indio. Ran light, no cars.
- Western Pacific boxcar on a westbound.
- Documented the other side, too.

I took extra effort to document non-graffiti cars to balance out the bad karma from the graffiti on the WP boxcar. :-)

UP 5675 is very clean. This train started the afternoon westbound Z train parade on Monday.

El Centro Haulers (MECWC and MWCEC) met near old CP "Mons" between West Palm Springs and Cabazon, but I was roaming semi-randomly, not looking for meets, so I was too late to document it.

But I did follow the MECWC because it was properly-powered with an interesting consist, so it ran quicker up from Palm Springs than other manifests that were too long and a bit underpowered: UP 2644 (T4 GE), UP 5221 (rare 52xx SD70M), smoking UP 8324 (early SD70ACe), and UP 4969 (Flared radiator SD70M).

Thanks for sharing, great stuff. Looks like the 5675 is one of those C44ACM rebuilds. I'm thinking UP will eventually rebuild all AC4400CW's, but without a renumbering, difficult to track.

The forklift operator lifted the load inside too high and pushed it up. Fairly common to see this happen.
