Wow, I don't see the problem, I have a pick-em-up truck and Texas is only 1000 miles away. But then again what i do with?. Can't squeeze that into my Z Scale locos.

I wonder if it is a good deal for stationary power? I'm guessing the locomotives that could use that particular engine are few in number.

Of course, if you have one of those locomotives, it could be a fortunate find.

What's interesting is that reading the description further one notes the following:

"TWO identical units are available."

Interesting that 2 are available.

I don't know about "drop in" but I think the M420s are V-12s also.

The generator is still attached....and it's a 12 cylinder!....if you had a body to put it in, you'd have to play with where everything would go...since the carbody would be set up for a 16-251!

Likely could be used in a marine application. Lots of bots out there w Alco power.

These were apparently originally purchased by the US Coast Guard, still a big user of Alco and F-M diesels.

Did Alco ever sell an entire diesel locomotive for $375,000 in the dollars of the time? Maybe one of their double diesels?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.  By comparrison our (MK's) cost to buy a 16V-645E3 or a 16V-710G in 1990 was $120,000 to 140,000 in 1990.
