Yesterday was cold here in Colorado
Author: ns2557

Well, perhaps not as cold in other area's of the nation. Temps were barely above 10 deg with a wind chill of around 0 deg making it rather interesting to be outside very long.  But just enough to grab the 3 shot seen here. Getting a few timely heads up before leaving home in Penrose Co and making my way east to the Pueblo Co area, here are 3 from the day.

Shot 1. Scanner activity helped with this one. A NB Empty out of the Sunflower Electric Power Plant at Holcomb headed back to the PRB for another load headed into the siding at Baxter Colo on the BNSF Pueblo Sub. Knowing that a SB was approaching and seeing how the Holcomb empty crew was short on time, and being north of Avondale Co, that left the siding here at Baxter the only remaining spot for a meet. Which was accomplished not long after I arrived here. BNSF ES44AC 6294 and 5949 lead a SB Load on the main as they pass the empty at the South Siding Switch at Baxter. The 6294 was starting to get a roll on as it passed the waiting empty.

Shot 2. A little farther compass east but RR south of Baxter at the Avondale siding we find the rear DPU on the BNSF 6294 passing another Loaded Coal in the siding here. CP ES44AC 8766 with BNSF SD70ACe 9314 are the DPU on the load that's on the Main here while BNSF SD70ACe 8791-ES44AC 6008 hold down the duties on the rear of the load in the siding. If I heard them correct on the scanner, the 6294 train on the main had a straight shot to La Junta where they wold be van delivered back here upon arrival at LJ to get on the train in siding which had BNSF 9040-9228-5870 leading. Interesting to note that the crew on the 9040 had to swap out the leader, which was the 9228 with what was the rear DPU and move to head end, which perhaps added to that crew going dead. But 9040 became the leader as the NB Holcomb Empty got by and before the SB 6294 arrived, all played out on the scanner. Once the crew on 6294 got back here and forwarded the 9040 back to LJ they were supposedly to be taken back to Pueblo. Why I do not know.

Shot 3  This is the first train I encountered this day. On what is known as Hump3 in the yard here and what is Canon City Jct as well, BNSF SD70ACe 8763 with MRL SD70ACe 4317 sit on the rear of another NB Empty waiting to head north.  All in all a rather busy few hours here in the area.

All shots taken January 19 2025 in the greater Pueblo Colo area on a cold winters day.  Snow on the ground didn't help much on the temp either.   Thanks for stopping by, be well. Ben
