Western Railroad Discussion > Very few along the way . . .Date: 03/18/25 18:14 Very few along the way . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . after attending a funeral in Las Vegas, NV, headed for CA to visit friends and family after which dropped off my wife at Ontario, CA, airport then meandered home.
top: visting brother in Lucern Valley, CA, headed to Twenty Nine Palms for the night then drove the hundred plus a little miles to Parker, AZ, home base of Arizona and California catching westbound train 708 departing Earp, CA, (front half of train is in CA rear half in Parker, AZ) middle: next morning with track work taking place in Crozier Canyon and cloudy weather cancelled my entry into the canyon instead hanging out west of the canyon catching one of two eastbounds that would hold for hours for at least six westbounds entering Hackberry, AZ. bottom: Then caught the second of the westbound coming out of Valentine, AZ. . . . only five more . . . ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 03/18/25 18:14 Re: Very few along the way . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . .
top: third westbound at same spot as above. middle: I think this MAY be a new train as I saw it on my last visit. It is QPHXSBD (W Phoenix to San Bernardino) This time it was 2x1 and last time it was 2x3. The reason, it runs from Phoenix to Williams Junction, then reverses to a westbound with the rear units. I don't know why they dont' run this train via the Arizona and California as it would save many hours and miles? Here, it is coming westbound out of Crozier Canyon approaching Valentine. bottom: next I headed east and got off I 40 at Parks ending up catching a westbound military train at Maine, Az. . . . only two more . . . Since mid-2024, BNSF Bxxxxxx4s are becoming Qxxxxxx4s, empty containers and trailers on flat cars. No hurry on getting them to California, so BNSF bypasses AZRC and haulage fees. By having a rear end DPU it's easier to reverse the train in an empty siding. Most are too long to flip at Williams Jct. siding. mapboy Date: 03/18/25 23:32 Re: Very few along the way . . .
