Western Railroad Discussion > Forty Friday: Caltrain Territory EditionDate: 04/11/25 15:48 Forty Friday: Caltrain Territory Edition Author: milepost20 But we're not talking about F40's. UP's LSF51 job sprints down the Caltrain main from
South San Francisco to Redwood Jct. thrice weekly(M-W-F) to serve customers out at the Port of Redwood City. Pairs of GP40-2's seem to be the favored power now with the GP60's that were once common now more scarce. Any break from the monopoly of Caltrain's EMU's is a welcome event. In a view from last month the UP1452 is seen passing the trilights at 22.7 southbound approaching San Carlos. Today's train with the 1488 is then seen in two shots a couple of miles south at Redwood City slowing for its arrival at the junction. The train is running on the blocks of Caltrain #118 which is a common practice as the UP freights have no problem keeping pace with the all stops Caltrain locals. Edited 1 time(s). heading back to the Caltrain main after working at the port. Operations on the Redwood Harbor Industrial Lead can be monitored on 161.460. A final 645-engined note: Caltrain's two MP15's can still be found out on the mainline on rescue trains, equipment moves and work trains. The 504 is seen heading up the ramp into San Bruno last November with a retired F40 + gallery set being moved from San Francisco to San Jose. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 04/11/25 22:46 Re: Forty Friday: Caltrain Territory Edition Author: weather Ni ce catch and great coveraage!!
