Western Railroad Discussion > A couple quick stops at Sullivan’sDate: 04/12/25 22:18 A couple quick stops at Sullivan’s Author: oyw Last weekend, I made my first morning visits this season to Sullivan’s Curve in Cajon Pass. Now that the sun is rising more to the north, Sullivan’s will have nice morning light on eastbound trains for the next several months. Last Saturday morning before heading down to Perris, we spotted a loaded BNSF Herzog ballast train climbing Cajon so I made a straight shot for Sullivan’s.
1) Not sure if it was a good or bad omen (I’ll call it good) but the first thing we saw was a deer inspecting the right-of-way. 2) BNSF 5831 leads the matched ballast train up Main track 1. 3) Shoving on the rear, BNSF 6025. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 04/12/25 22:23 Re: A couple quick stops at Sullivan’s Author: oyw On my way out the next morning (Sunday April 5), I was alerted by a friend that a BNSF empty vehicle train was on the move east out of San Bernardino with 3 NS units as the only power. Once again, I headed for Sullivan’s.
4) Running first was the hot ZSBDALT behind BNSF 7493. Before the NS train showed, a distracting southbound UP manifest took the siding at Canyon. 5) First a telephoto of BNSF VSBDELP (San Bernardino-El Paso) led by NS 8092, 4677 and 4316. 6) And the more “overall” Sullivan’s Curve shot. Eastbound NS leaders are fairly rare on Cajon. Thank you much to everyone for looking.
