Western Railroad Discussion > Derailment in downtown Shreveport, LADate: 04/14/25 15:05 Derailment in downtown Shreveport, LA Author: Roadmaster At around 1:15 PM this afternoon a Union Pacific train was negotiating a tight curve in downtown Shreveport when 11 cars derailed. A photo, and a little more information, is available at the following link:

Sure APPEARS that cars started heading down an industry spur that heads north a mile or so to a single industry? MAYBE picked the switch. Actually got locked into that parking lot where two white pickups and fire truck are in upper left while waiting for a KCS pic. Fortunately lots of pedestrian walkways in the area and was able to escape via a sidewalk!

coming across the Red River bridge is industry track that sees a train maybe once a week. My best guess is the hopper cars picked the switch when they should have taken the left hand portion of the switch. Cars were going around the curve until they started going straight, with that one car caught in the middle.
