Western Railroad Discussion > Traffic on Arnold LoopDate: 05/06/25 19:11 Traffic on Arnold Loop Author: BN4364 What's the traffic count these days on Arnold Loop? I'll be in the are in a couple of days and would like to check it out.
Date: 05/06/25 20:28 Re: Traffic on Arnold Loop Author: JDLX Traffic counts right now average six or seven trains in a 24- hour period. Consistent trains are the Amtrak 5 and 6, nocturnal passage unless something goes wrong; roughly one intermodal train (IOANP/INPOA) each way; and an auto train each way. The auto and intermodal trains had been combined much of the past several months but seem to have been split out again in the past couple weeks, part of me suspects this may be thanks to the recent crush of imports as businesses are trying to beat tariffs, now that they are in effect I wouldn’t be surprised to see the intermodal and auto trains combined again. The auto train normally has a healthy cut of general freight added to the head end, as does the intermodal on occasion. Other random trains that show up are the Valmy and TS coal trains, maybe 1-2 normally westbound grain trains a day, and roughly 3 BNSF trackage rights trains each way in a week. Some days I can be within sight of the tracks for most of a day and see nothing moving, other days I’ll see two or three trains.
Hope this helps. Jeff Moore Elko, NV Posted from iPhone Date: 05/07/25 05:15 Re: Traffic on Arnold Loop Author: BN4364 Thanks for the information, Jeff.
