BNSF 6550 lubo (Laid Up Bad Order) @ Topeka, Kansas BNSF 6551 lupe (Laid Up Pending ?) @ Topeka, Kansas BNSF 6552 lubo @ Topeka, Kansas None have run this year. All of the remaining 20 cylinder cowls on the Santa Fe roster (not counting the MPEX leasers) were pulled from service by the middle of May of 1999. However, BNSF has taken their time disposing of the carcasses. The last FP45, #90, was in storage for nearly two years before finally being retired and donated to the Oklahoma Railroad Museum in December of last year. F45 6551 has been out of service at least as long, but it and the other two units (6550 and 6552) are apparently still on the property. The 6550 was reportedly made servicable in September of 1999 in case it was needed for the fall rush, but the call to duty never came. Wonder if the fine folks in Pomona would be willing to take an F45. They were trying to get the 90, but BNSF had already donated two FP45's to southern California museums, and wanted to spread the units around the system. Date: 06/30/01 23:50 RE: ex Santa Fe SDF45 units / SDF40-'s Author: santafevern Last week in Corwith yard I saw a cowl unit at the roundhounse, I did a double take and was pretty sure I saw an F-45 on the inbound track. I've also seen a SD-45-2B on a east bound manifest and also a couple of SD-45"s and SD-45-2"s on the Illinois Div .

The info I obtained on the 6550-6552 being stored in Topeka, came directly from the BNSF's mainframe, through their "locomotive inquiry/history" files. You must have seen a 6960 class (ex-Amtrak SDP-40F) SDF-40-2. Take Care, and Be "ZAFE" THE "Z" MAN ;^) Bob F. ZWSPLAC Date: 02/24/20 04:55 Re: RE: BNSF's 3 remaining SDF45 units 6550-6552 Author: Sterned 6550-6552 were F45 patched with BSNF on the front and renumbered in 1998. Used for about a year until mechanical issues shut them down. They were officially retired in 2002.
Three Santa Fe SDF45s numbered 5953, 5970 and 5975 were conveyed to the BNSF in the 1996 merger and were renumbered BNSF 6550-6552. They were retired in May 2002.
