montana train watching expedition
Posted by born to ride on 10/24/2003, 9:29 pm
went out west to watch the mrl, was up in the mountains around butte mt saw a hureon eastern engine in consist, later was traveling around drove my jeep up the right away I new there wouldnt be any trains around, Was about 3miles down the track and got a flat tire, I walked back 3miles to to a gas station and they wouldnt send a tow truck up the track, but he gave me a jack, started to walk back to my jeep and herd a train coming, I tried to wave them down to catch a ride back but the conductor threw 2 water bottles at me, I ran up the mountain found the train stopped with my jeep wrapped around the engine, just as I got up to the engine the train began to pull away and the pushed my jeep out of the way, all my camaras and camcorder where inside, when I called the cops they came and gave me a ticket, And when I told the cop I had no money when I took off running, but he quickly tackled me, I ended up spending 4 days in county jail, So if any of you are going to montana to watch trains I wouldnt

Correct me if I'm wrong but MRL main line doesn't come within 50 miles of Butte and from what I remember about the Whitehall branch, it hardly consistitues "mountainous."
The story does seem pretty far fetched too...

Well, it sounds pretty bogus to me. There is no MRL in Butte. The railroad in Butte, BNSF formerly Montana Western, doesn't run into the mountains unless you consider the foothills surrounding Durant (Silver Bow ) canyon to be mountians. There are other ways to drive into this area. I doubt the train crew would have just pushed the vehicle away and left without the county sheriff being there. Perhaps he needs a good story to tell the insurance company about the damage to his vehicle after taking a corner too fast and wrapping it around a tree of boulder.

Don't know if that story is true or not, but I DID have a friend who bought a new Jeep Wrangler in Anchorage, and went out 4 wheeling two days after buying it. He highsided the thing on the Alaska RR main, where it ran through Elmendorf AFB/Ft Richardson, and the jeep got flattened. To add insult to injury, ARR sent him a bill for repainting the snowplow!

You sound like a perfect Darwin Candidate, or may you just moved here from Kentucky. After I got my twelve year old cousin pregnant, she wouldn't even marry me! "Just cause I's 32 and even 7-11 won't hire me". "I mean, what's she want from a guy, anyway"?

That is GREAT news!
Railroads need to go after such idiocy.

That story is totally bogus. The great people of Montana and the peace officers do not deserve to be labeled as morons as the post allows. That maroon deserves to be in the pokey, for his/her eggregious lies.

This story has to be fake or this guy is the biggest redneck dumbass around. If in fact he did run from the cops he deserved everything he got. Also from reading the message I'd be surprised if this guy ever made it out of elementary school!

If it is true, we have to hope that the guy is incapable of breeding.
