At 7:30 a.m. I heard DS 74 tell a train, "The work train for the derailemnt is behind you at Newcastle"

Anyone know what happened?

The QFRNPT 30 derailed its rear nine cars and two DPU units at MP 198.2 in Tunnel 42 at 11:35 p.m. last night. There were no injuries. Contractors are expected on site to clear at about 10:30 a.m. this morning after plowing a road for about 4 miles to reach the derailment. There is no time estimate on reopening. The cause is under investigation. Trains are running on the other main track some distance away at this location. There will be no detours via the Canyon. This was not "the big hole" tunnel.

Thanks John, the work train just creeped by my house.

No injuries and not much damage is a good thing.

... but loss of radio continuity with the DPUs is obviously NOT a good thing... :-)

It could have been loss of communication with the head end.

It could have been something else.... but rumors I heard at Andover today blame loss of communication.

The wreck happened inside the tunnel and all the derailed cars are in there.
