Western Railroad Discussion > UP Napa Pipe Unit Trains

The number of unit pipe trains originating at Napa Pipe on the California Northern and interchanged to UP at Suisun-Fairfield has picked up in recent weeks with an eastbound sighted at West Causeway on the Cal-P this morning. UP4590-6024-9462 lead the train in photo at 08:00 with boxcars as first and last cars in train to protect against load shifts. In the past empty autoracks had been used.

This is a natural gas pipeline installed in Seattle last year. There is the need for a major project however orders are backlogged for some time.
