Western Railroad Discussion > RoadRailer Question.Date: 03/03/04 19:49 RoadRailer Question. Author: tlk Some time ago I read that Wabash National was testing Road Railers at the Pueblo test track to apply for a waiver to allow them to be tagged onto the end of regular freight trains. Has anyone heard anything about this?
Thanks, tlk Date: 03/04/04 11:18 Re: RoadRailer Question. Author: Dash BNSF has already been granted permission by the FRA to run roadrailers behind intermodal trains. This was intended to be for their Ice Cold Express reefer service, since late trailers constantly wound up on a flat car. BNSF discontinued their ICE service before this was ever done, and the bogies were returned to Wabash.

Author: up8513 about 2 years ago BNSF got a waiver to run roadrailers on the rear of regular freight & intermodal trains. they got the waiver but never exercise it. NS also got a waiver to expand the length of there roadrailer trains from 125 trailers to 150 trailers.

Why didn't they operate the RoadRailers on the rear of their regular IM trains? KS Date: 03/04/04 21:19 Re: RoadRailer Question. Author: bjofnd They twist when you pull on them, so putting regular freight cars behind them would tare them apart. Even long cuts of Road Railers are a no no because the weight starts to add up even though they are light as a feather compared to standard tofc/cofc. If you have them in you consist they need to be the last cars on your train.
