Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF's Westwood Snow Fighting FleetDate: 05/10/04 17:30 BNSF's Westwood Snow Fighting Fleet Author: shed47 Patiently waiting for the perfect storm to hit some winter, BNSF still has at Westwood, CA on its former GN-WP Gateway Sub Highline a full rotary snowplow set as well as a spreader. Rotary Plow BN972561 and Power Unit BN972577 make up the set along with (far from home) spreader ATSF199250.
Since taking over the Highline from UP in 1996 has BNSF ever used the rotary? How much action has the Santa Fe spreader seen? Anyone know if the equipment is fired up on a regular basis--if considered still active I imagine they would still be subject to periodic inspections. BN972561-972577 are seen below at Westwood this past Monday 5/3. Date: 05/10/04 17:35 Re: BNSF's Westwood Snow Fighting Fleet Author: shed47 Rotary Snow Plow BN972561 was built by ALCO/Brooks in 1927 and is ex GN X-1510. Converted from steam to electric power in 1961.
